Demis Quadri nominated as SUPSI Professor of Research and Teaching in Physical Theater

Theater Theory and History of Theater teacher, and researcher in Theater Studies, Demis Quadri has recently also become the Head of the Research Department of the Accademia Teatro Dimitri.

Throughout the selection process, Demis Quadri has distinguished himself in his career as a researcher and lecturer in the field of Theater Studies, with particular attention to Physical Theater, as well as for his many years of experience in the context of the Accademia Teatro Dimitri including its education and applied research programs. From his regular attendance at various events at the national and international level, he has a deep knowledge of the scientific research community, and is currently involved in research projects concerning topics of interest to the Accademia.


With a degree in Italian language and literature, Romance Philology and Ethnology at the University of Fribourg, Demis Quadri obtained a double doctorate in Italian Language and Literature and Theatrical Studies at the Universities of Fribourg and Bern. From 2005 to 2009, he collaborated with the Institut für Theaterwissenschaft at the University of Bern on a research project of the Swiss National Fund on the topic of Commedia dell’Arte. In 2010 he was an invited lecturer at the Haute école de musique in Geneva and in 2017 at the Istituto per il Teatro e il Melodramma della Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice. In the meantime, he participated in the publication of an edition of the “Scenari più scelti d’istrioni”, directed by Stefan Hulfeld, which in 2014 was honored with a prize by the Rectorate of the University of Vienna.


Demis Quadri is also a member of the Accademia’s Deanship, in which he has been regularly teaching since 2009, offering a course dedicated to the theater theory and history, with necessary bridges to other performing arts, especially performance art, dance, and clowning. Among the various projects developed for the Accademia Teatro Dimitri, the “Disabled Body in Discourse” research and training project, awarded Best Teaching Award by Credit Suisse in 2017: the project is a part of a wider DisAbility on Stage, dedicated to the theme of disability in contemporary performance practices and supported by the Swiss National Fund, in collaboration with the Institute for the Performing Arts and Film of the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, le università di Berna e Basilea, the festivals of the IntegrART circuit, and the ensemble Teatro Danzabile and Theater HORA.
