Evening with Fabio Tolledi on the theme “Theatre and war”

Curated by Giorgia Theoni. Tuesday January 23, 2018, 6:00pm at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri in Verscio

The evening will begin with a series of essays and texts by Fabio Tolledi collected between 2005 and 2014 on the work of Astràgali Teatro, the company-laboratory he founded over thirty years ago. The book is titled “Theatre and war” and, like a diary, offers points of reflection arising from direct experiences, conferences, and observations made in “hot” or Mediterranean conflict-areas like Cyprus, Turkey, Palestine, the Balkans, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq. They are also places where the great themes of current events take shape, the scenes of change, of diversity and of cultural clash that come down to us. All of this, revisited from a theatrical perspective around the sense of war, from classical tragedy to the present day.

Fabio Tolledi

Director, playwright, poet and sociologist (University of Salento), director of Astragali Teatro since 1991. President of the Italian Centre of the International Theatre Institute ITI - Unesco, Executive Board member, Vice-President for Europe Executive Council and, since last year, Vice-President of the Cultural Identity and Development Committee of ITI. He has conducted training and coordinated joint theatre collaborations at national and trans-national level. He has led international theatre workshops and residencies in the Mediterranean area and in European countries (Palestine, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Kosovo, Albania, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, France, Spain), as artistic director and coordinator in many trans-national projects.
