Heroes to some, monsters to others – Jidar ("Wall"), the final project for the Master of Arts in Theatre by Aws Al-Zubaïdy, explores how the crises we experience shape our identity.
The tensions between past and present, between safety and fear, create a framework in which theatrical language shapes space, time, and bodies. Wordlessly, but with absurdity and humor, the two performers challenge the boundaries of invisible walls. At the heart of the performance stands the image of the "Sunbird of Palestine" and a personal story of heritage and identity. The plot follows the search for a lost painting by the artist’s father, which becomes a powerful symbol of resistance to oppression and the fight for dignity and freedom.
Jidar, performed by Aws Al-Zubaïdy and Shebli Albau, represents a reflection on the fine line between heroism and monstrosity, inviting us to consider how our actions and experiences can be perceived from different perspectives.
