The Accademia Dimitri is pleased to announce the participation of Veronica Provenzale, Administrative Director of the Academy, and Demis Quadri, Head of Services and Research, at the Swiss Sociological Association (SSA) 2024 Congress, which will be held at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland in Basel (Muttenz) from September 9 to 11, 2024.
Their presentation, in collaboration with Danuscia Tschudi (SUPSI - Competence Center for Work, Welfare, and Society), will take place on September 10 at 4:45 PM as part of the session "Workshop Session: Vulnerability in Arts and Culture: Risks and Responses." The presentation, titled "Vulnerability in the Performing Arts in Italian-speaking Switzerland," will explore the process of vulnerability affecting artists active in the performing arts in Italian-speaking Switzerland.
The contribution is part of the "Building a Character" project, conducted by the Accademia Dimitri in collaboration with the DEASS of SUPSI, and focuses on the growing exposure of artists to risks in various areas of life, such as work, family, and health, as well as the reduction of resources to cope with economic hardships and personal crises.¨
During the presentation, critical events and transitions in the lives of artists that highlight their vulnerability will be analyzed, and the different levels involved in this process - individual, collective, and institutional - will be discussed. The goal is to overcome the stereotypes associated with the artist's condition and to evaluate the consistency between the needs expressed by artists and the institutional responses aimed at countering the processes of vulnerability.
