Meˈdeːa

Leonie Stalder

Meˈdeːa

In Euripides' tragedy, Medea betrays her homeland and kills her brother for the love of Jason. When Jason betrays her by marrying another woman, she becomes a murderer out of revenge for her own children. In more recent versions, the character becomes more complex, and the act is no longer depicted as a simple act of vengeance.

The project Meˈdeːa is an attempt to give voice back to the character and allow her the opportunity to tell her own story about how she came to commit this crime. This is not to excuse the crime, but perhaps to make it more understandable.
